Job Description:
We are currently seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Allergy
Service - the main clinic is located in the Clinic and Specialty
Center in downtown Minneapolis. This role may require metro travel
to provide coverage at North Loop, Richfield, and Golden Valley
clinics - and future expansion allergy clinics. This position is a
full-time, day shift position (1.0 FTE, 10 shifts/ pay period,
8-hour shifts)./**The clinic is currently open Day hours
Monday-Friday but may expand to Evenings and Weekends as we
grow./Hennepin Healthcare's AFSCME pay range: - Medical Assistants:
$22.39-$28.88 - Licensed Practical Nurses: $22.42-$30.83 Offers are
based on prior experience in the respective roles and/or relevant
patient-facing roles (non-administrative).A sign-on bonus of $5,000
is available for eligible external candidates (current employees
and former employees returning to HHS within one year are
ineligible).The sign-on bonus amount is $2,500 for uncertified
Medical Assistants and $5,000 for Medical Assistants
certified/registered through the AAMA, AMT, or NHA._SUMMARY_ /
Medical Assistant /- Under the direction/ delegation of a
physician(s) or other clinical care team members, the Medical
Assistant contributes to the health and well-being of patients by
providing quality and competentpatient & family centered care/
services that meet HCMC and departmental standards. / Licensed
Practical Nurse /- With the context of the Hennepin County Medical
Center Relationship-Based Care Practice Model, under the direction
of providers and/or the registered nurse, the Licensed Practical
Nurse assists providers in the delivery of care and performs
nursing functions within the LPN scope of
practice._RESPONSIBILITIES - Medical Assistant_ * Perform assigned
clinical tasks under the direction of a physician or other
providers including: administer medications, injections, and
immunizations, spirometry, tympanometry, apply minor dressings and
splints, connect patients to portable monitors e.g. pulse oximetry,
nebulization, glucose monitoring, and urethral catheterization and
other clinical duties as delegated within the Medical Assistant
scope of practice * Set up for and provide direct assistance to
physicians and other licensed care providers with medical
examinations and procedures including: colposcopy, flex
sigmoidoscopy, minor surgery * Perform specimen collection
including: blood draws, sputum samples and urine samples. * Perform
hearing and vision screens and developmental testing * Review
patient information as required by the rooming process and
competently enter information into the patient medical record *
Perform basic patient care activities including: place patients in
rooms, take and chart vital signs * Under the direction of a
physician or other providers, patient information through
standardized teaching sheets * Perform limited registration and
scheduling tasks in clinics that do not have clerical support
and/or contact Patient Access Services to do phone registration and
scheduling * Clean equipment and rooms * Procure and stock
equipment and supplies and ensure that equipment is operable
through quality assurance checks * Attends mandatory department or
unit meetings, in-services and appropriate work related education
programs * Conducts point of care tests as assigned and instructed
once competency is established and verified * Develops and
maintains a positive working relationship with patient and family,
team members, department and medical center personnel * Supports
clinic and medical center compliance with The Joint Commission
standards, customer service and other initiatives * Performs
various technical clinical procedures within the scope of a Medical
Assistant and only after competency is established and verified
according to policies, procedures, and protocol including:
maintaining oxygen equipment, performing oral or nasopharyngeal
suctioning, routine incision care and using resources appropriately
* Performs basic clerical duties in EHR or contacts Patient Access
Services for phone registration; answers phones and transfers calls
appropriately * Performs other duties as assignedRESPONSIBILITIES -
Licensed Practical NursePerform assigned clinical tasks under the
direction of a provider or a registered nurse including: administer
and dispense medications and immunizationsContribute to the initial
and ongoing assessment of patientsObtain patient information and
medical history including current medications, allergies, chief
complaint, and immunization schedulePerform basic patient care
activities including taking and charting vital signsUnder the
direction of a registered nurse, provide patient education from
standardized teaching plansTranscribe orders, maintain telephone
communication, and call prescription refills as directed by
providersPerform other duties as assigned_QUALIFICATIONS - Medical
Assistant_ / Minimum Qualifications: / * Diploma or Associate's
Degree from an AAMA or AMT accredited Medical Assistant training
program that includes a clinical externship or a formal medical
services training program of the United States Armed Forces, as
evidenced through educational transcripts. / Preferred
Qualifications: / * Experience with EPIC and/or similar electronic
health record * Proficient with Microsoft Office Software * 6
months related experience or HCMC externship * Possesses active
certification/registration by the AAMA, AMT, or NHCA at time of
hire./ Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: /Ability to perform
specialized clinical tasks and procedures in alignment with HCMC
standardsKnowledge of medical terminologyAbility to effectively
interview patients and collect information required to obtain
medical history and to accurately register and/ or schedule
patientsAbility to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse
work force and patient populationAbility to prioritize, organize,
and communicate with multidisciplinary staffBasic computer
knowledgeAbility to read and follow written instructions;
understand and communicate verbal and written informationAbility to
perform job duties that meet departmental performance expectations
as well as HCMC standards related to quality, accuracy,
productivity, patient and family centered care, customer service,
etc./ License/Certifications: /Credentialed or Registered through
AAMA, AMT, or NHCA within six months of employment.Must have and
maintain valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for
Health Care Providers certification or the ability to obtain this
within the first three months of employment.Ambulatory Care Float
Pool: Medical Assistant positions in the float pool require driving
to off campus clinics. Must have a valid driver's license and the
availability of an insured vehicle or demonstrate ability to travel
to offsite clinics during the work shift within a one-hour
timeframe.QUALIFICATIONS - Licensed Practical Nurse / Minimum
Qualifications: /Completion of an approved course in practical
